Questions & Answers

Q. Can I be hypnotized?
R. Almost everyone has experienced a hypnotic state. It is a natural state where the mind quiets and outside distractions fade. You are still awake and fully in control of all that happens. At least twice a day – just as you awaken from a nights sleep and then again, just before you drift off to sleep – you are in what is considered a deepened or hypnotic mindset.

Since all hypnosis is ultimately “self-hypnosis”—you choose to enter it or leave it, you cannot be made to or forced to relax.

Q. Is it safe?
R.
You are always in control while in this state. In fact, your discernment (ability to choose) is actually heightened. You can follow the suggestions that are given, change them, or ignore them. You can share what you are experiencing internally and hold anything private. The subconscious mind is user-friendly. You will only see that which you are ready to see. You can open your eyes at any time and find yourself fully awake, relaxed and fully conscious.

Q. When I am in a hypnotic state, can you make me quack like a chicken?
R. Only if you want to.

Your mind will never follow suggestions that you do not think are acceptable. You cannot be made to override your own values or accepted patterns of behavior. You are always in control.

Hypnosis stage shows often present the illusion of the hypnotist having direct control “over” the volunteer. If you were to question the most entertaining volunteers after the show , they would tell you that they knew exactly what they were doing—that is, inwardly they agreed to be the clown. Stage hypnotist know how to usher the less agreeable volunteers off stage. Its not that they couldn’t be hynotized. They simple chose not to follow those suggestions.

Q. When I am in a hypnotic state, can I get stuck there?
R. No. A hypnotic state can be terminated by you at any time. Again, it is your choice to enter the relaxed state and you can easily move out of it.
